Working on Antyodaya vision, technology
and talent are India's two pillars: PM Modi
HYDERABAD (TELANGANA): "We are
working with the vision of Antyodaya, which means empowering the fringes of
society," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Today the country's 450 million
unbanked, unbanked people, a population larger than that of America, have been
brought under the banking net. Prime Minister Modi described his government's
achievement as saying that 135 million people, twice the population of France,
have been insured.
110 million households have been
provided sanitation facilities and 60 million households have been provided tap
water connections, ensuring that no citizen of India is left behind, he said.
He addressed the United Nations World
Geospatial International Congress virtually today.
Welcoming the international
delegation, the Prime Minister said, "People of India are delighted to
host you on this historic occasion where we are building our future
together." He said the conference is being held in Hyderabad, a city known
for its culture and cuisine, hospitality and hi-tech.
Technology and talent are two
important pillars of India's development journey. Technology brings
transformation, the Prime Minister said citing the example of JAM Trinity which
has delivered welfare benefits to 800 million people and the tech platform
which powered the world's largest vaccination drive against Covid infection. In
India, technology is not an external agent but an internal agent, he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted the
role of geospatial technology in driving inclusion and progress. The Prime
Minister emphasized that the role of technology in projects like SVAMITVA and
Housing and the outcomes of asset ownership and women's empowerment, have a
direct impact on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on poverty
and gender equality.
He said that the Pradhan Mantri
Gatishakti project is being run with geo-spatial technology as a digital open
platform. India is already an example in sharing the benefits of geo-spatial
technology, the Prime Minister said citing the example of South Asia satellite
to facilitate communication in India's neighbourhood.
"India is a young nation with a
great innovative spirit," he said, highlighting the role of talent as the
second pillar in India's journey. India is one of the top startup hubs in the
world, with the number of unicorn startups doubling since 2021- a testament to
India's young talent.
Freedom to invent is one of the most
important freedoms. It is ensured for geographical zone. He said that the collection,
generation and digitization of geospatial data has now been democratized. With
such reforms giving a boost to the drone sector and opening up the space sector
for private participation, 5G has gained momentum in India, he said.
The COVID-19 pandemic should have
been a wake-up call to the world. It has demonstrated the need for an
institutionalized approach by the international community to help each other in
times of crisis. Global organizations such as the United Nations can pave the
way for taking resources to the last mile in each region. Hand-holding and
technology transfer are also crucial in fighting climate change, suggesting
that best practices can be shared to save our planet.
The Prime Minister emphasized the
endless possibilities offered by geo-spatial technology. These include
sustainable urban development, managing and mitigating disasters, monitoring
the impact of climate change, forest management, water management, stopping
desertification and food security. He hoped that this conference would be a
platform to discuss the developments in such important fields.
