Karnataka's Roger Binny elected as BCCI's new president, Jay Shah continues as secretary

New Delhi: 1983 World Cup winning team India hero Roger Binny of Bengaluru is all set to take charge as the new president of BCCI. Incumbent Sourav Ganguly's tenure will end on October 18. After several rounds of discussion over the past one week, 67-year-old Roger Binny of Bangalore has been decided to become the 36th president of the BCCI. Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son Jai Shah will continue as BCCI secretary for a second term. Jay Shah will replace Ganguly on the ICC board to represent India. Rajeev Shukla will continue as Vice President. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur's brother Arun Sindh Dhumal will now be the IPL chief. Dhumal will replace Brijesh Patel. Maharashtra BJP leader Ashish Shelar is the new treasurer, while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma's aide Devjit Saikia is the new joint secretary. Roger Binny will take charge at the AGM in Mumbai on October 18. No election is being held as all the candidates have been selected unanimously. Roger Binny played an important role in the Indian team winning the 1983 World Cup. Medium pacer Roger Binny took 18 wickets in 8 matches in the prestigious tournament.

Bengaluru: 2 dead, 3 injured as ceiling of building collapses

Bengaluru: An incident took place in Bengaluru on Tuesday, in which two people were killed and three seriously injured due to the collapse of the ceiling of a building. Two laborers died on the spot when the ceiling of a building they were clearing collapsed near Hoodi in Mahadevpur, Bengaluru on Tuesday morning. Similarly, three people were seriously injured and the injured were admitted to the hospital. The deceased laborers have been identified as 27-year-old Armaan and 38-year-old Zainuddin, both of whom hail from Bihar, police sources said. A building belonging to a private company near Graphite India in Mahadevpur was in the process of being vacated. Armaan and Zainuddin, who were assigned for evacuation, were sleeping in the building. As it rained at night, everyone was sleeping downstairs. The roof of the building suddenly collapsed at around 5 am and two workers died on the spot. The fire brigade personnel rushed to the building immediately after learning of the mishap and admitted three other workers to the hospital. A case has been registered at Mahadevpur police station.

Heavy rains across Karnataka for the next 5 days: Districts on high alert, Met Department warns

BENGALURU: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rainfall will occur in most parts of Karnataka for the next five days. Meteorological department has issued yellow alert for coastal, north and south interior of Karnataka today and tomorrow. Rainfall extended up to 1.5 km above mean sea level due to cyclonic circulation over North Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. A cyclonic circulation is present over Rayalaseema, Telangana, Vidarbha and West Madhya Pradesh at a height of 0.9 km above sea level, over North Tamil Nadu and neighboring or East Rajasthan. A cyclonic circulation is located at an altitude of 3.1 km above mean sea level over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent northern Sri Lankan coast. Thunder, lightning, strong winds and heavy rain are expected. In today's case, the District Collector has been warned to take appropriate precautionary measures. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belgaum, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadagiri, Bellary, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Shimoga, Kolar districts will be hit by heavy rain.
