Kerala MP Shashi Tharoor, who is running for the Congress Presidential
election, has clarified that he is not behind the race. are departing. Saying

never have a lifetime and never will." He also said that he was surprised

had said that his opponent and senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge cannot
bring change in the party. Addressing party workers at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial
in Nagpur, Tharoor claimed that he represents change in the party. "We are
not enemies, this is not war. Some people are saying that Kharge ji is a senior
leader, and why don't I get out of the race for him? I respect Kharge ji, but
this is the future of our party. There is an election for the BJP. There are
differences in the way we want to take the party forward," ANI quoted the
Congress MP as saying. He said, "Kharge ji is part of our leadership, and
apart from the Gandhi family, he is among the top three leaders of the Congress
party. But leaders like him cannot bring change and will continue with the
current system. I will bring the hopes of party workers." According to
Parivartan, "On his turn, Kharge told a press conference that he told
Tharoor that it would be better to have a consensus candidate, but the latter
insisted on a contest for "democracy" for the Congress president's
post if If necessary, polling will be held on October 17. Counting of votes
will be done on October 19 and results will be declared on the same day. More
than 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) representatives will vote in the
election.
Indian Air Force Day:
Weapons Systems Branch in Air Force, Induction of Women Firefighters, Emphasis
on Self-Reliance
New Delhi: Today, October 8 Saturday
is the 90th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (Indian Air Force Day). This is
the first time that the Indian Air Force Day celebrations were held outside
Delhi in Chandigarh.
About 80 airplanes displayed their
abilities and stunts for hours on the Sukna Lake here. A new combat uniform was
also unveiled today. Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary
watched the parade and announced the creation of a new operational branch.
On this historic day, the Government
is pleased to say that the Government has approved the creation of a Weapons
Systems Branch for officers in the IAF. This is the first time since
independence that a new operational branch is being created in the Air Force.
It basically handles specialized streams of force in surface-to-surface
missiles, surface-to-air missiles, remotely piloted aircraft and weapon system
operators in twin and multi-crew aircraft, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary said
while addressing the programme. He said that as the cost of flight training has
been reduced, the government will save more than Rs 3,400 crore.
Women fire fighters from next year:
On the same occasion, he also spoke about happiness to the women youth
community of the country. Women fire fighters will be inducted into the Air
Force from next year. In this regard, the creation of infrastructure is in
progress and business formation is being facilitated, he said. This year the
focus of IAF Day is on self-reliance or indigenization. Several
indigenously-built platforms will feature on IAF Day - the newly inducted
Prachand Light indigenously-built combat helicopter was inducted last week. Air
Force Day marks the official induction of the Indian Air Force in 1932 as a
supporting force of England's Royal Air Force. Every year, the day is
celebrated in the presence of Indian Air Force chiefs and senior officers.
Cabinet approves increase
in SC, ST reservation
Bengaluru: The state cabinet has approved the
increase in reservation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities in
the state.
Chief Minister Basavaraja
S. to increase the reservation rate for Scheduled Castes from 15 to 17 percent
and Scheduled Tribe reservation from 5 to 7 percent. A cabinet committee headed
by Bommai has given permission.
Speaking to reporters
after the meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J. C. Madhuswamy,
Justice Nagmohan Das report has been accepted by the government. The report
will be presented before both houses for approval. Later we will send it to the
central government. He explained that the increase in reservation will come
into effect after getting permission from there.
An all-party meeting was
held in this regard yesterday. It may be recalled that there was unanimous
approval for increase in reservation
