Gujarat's Modhera is the country's first fully solar powered village!

AHMEDABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Modhera in the state of Gujarat will be the country's first 24x7 solar powered village. There is a famous Sun Temple in Modhera. Whenever people discuss solar energy in the world, this village appears in it. Government produces electricity and people buy it. But we want people to be energy producers. Do not pay for electricity; The Prime Minister demanded to sell it and earn from it. People of Modhera are consumers and producers of electricity. The government is buying the surplus electricity generated. Such successful efforts should be replicated across the country, he said. The Modhera Sun Temple and Town Solar Electrification Center are in partnership with state governments. He said the village has been integrated with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sujjanpur in Mehsana, about 6 km from the Sun Temple. More than 1,300 rooftop solar systems have been installed on homes to generate electricity. While electricity comes from solar panels during the day, electricity is supplied from BESS at night. Modhera is the first modern village to have a solar-based modern electric vehicle charging station.
