No board exam for classes 5,8, only
evaluation: Karnataka School Education Minister
BENGALURU: Minister for School
Education and Literacy BC Nagesh has clarified on Sunday that the examination
for Class 5 and 8 students will be similar to the assessment. On Sunday,
Education Minister BC Nagesh clarified on the conduct of board exams for class
5 and 8 students and said that the exams will be similar to assessment. The
government has abandoned the idea of conducting public examinations to check
the learning standards of students. Government has no intention to conduct
public exam on SSLC model for 5th and 8th class children. He said that there
have been thoughts of conducting the exam in an alternative pattern. Aojz this
alternate exam is not SSLC type board exam. This will be discussed in the
meeting on October 13. The move to conduct the examination is said to be a part
of the National Education Policy (NEP). 5+3-3+4 is part of education system.
The examination will help in evaluating the educational quality of the
children. These discussions are at an early stage. There is no clear picture of
how the project implementation and evaluation should be done. Nagesh informed
that this will be helpful for uniformity in assessment. The move is part of the
National Education Policy (NEP), sources in the education department said, “As
part of the 5+3+3+4 system of education, we are trying to implement the
evaluation system. This allows us to assess how students are progressing in
their learning. He pointed out that this is against the no detention policy,
where students pass without any attention to how they are doing in their
classes and what can be done to help them. This time the government was
thinking about SSLC model board exam for 5th and 8th class students. But there
was widespread outrage in the public sector.
